In 1934-6, four artists (Charles Mahoney, Evelyn Dunbar, Mildred Eldridge and Violet Martin, all from the Royal College of Art) worked on paintings in the hall of an Edwardian school in Brockley, creating a cycle of intense, romantic modern-life equivalents of Aesops Fables. The murals were listed in the 1990s following renewed interest in this work and these artists [20th Century Society text]
The murals are magnificent and in good condition. The subject matter includes a representation of the school building and of school pupils in among the bushes and playing along the railings.
